The State of the nation address had the usual fanfare, presented some curious onlookers a spectacle and gave others a chance to showcase their taste in fashion.

Thousands of spectators lined the pavements along the route that President Jacob Zuma's motorcade took to Parliament.

Members of the various defence force units marched on the route while the Cape Town Highlanders also made their appearance.
