ARCHBISHOP Emeritus Desmond Tutu was in typically jocular mood as he welcomed Princess Stéphanie of Monaco at his foundation’s offices in Milnerton yesterday.
A former model and singer, she is president of Fight Aids Monaco, and is visiting South Africa for the second time in her capacity as UNAIDS goodwill ambassador, the first being in December 2009.
Tutu told journalists: “It’s just wonderful to know she acts royally in carrying her foundation, one that does very many good things. And in addition, she is beautiful.”
With his signature hearty laugh, he added: “I’m allowed to say such things as an old man. I’m a connoisseur, you know, with age.
“On behalf of those who are beneficiaries of the royal largesse, thank you. Merci.”
Stéphanie did not address the media.
