A UK-born swimmer will brave a 7.5km swim in cold water from Robben Island to Blouberg today to raise funds to provide underprivileged children with an education.
Natasha Dyer, 25, has been working in SA for 18 months as the head of development for the Kay Mason Foundation, which sponsors bright, motivated children whose parents lack the means of providing them with an education.
A very nervous, yet excited Dyer told the Cape Times yesterday her biggest challenge might be the “intensely cold temperature of the water”.
“The water will be between 10ºC and 15ºC and the swim will take about three hours… I will only be allowed to wear a regulation costume and a swimming cap,” she said.
