TAKE South Africa’s “king of the keyboard”, Ian von Memerty, and put him together with eight of the world’s greatest songwriting piano stars, and you have all the ingredients you need for a “killer” show.

Von memerty’s Keyboard Killers will be staged at Theatre on the Bay from Wednesday until July 17.

The show asks, why, of the millions of people who play the piano, are there those rare individuals whose music and lyrics inspire for decades?

Von Memerty takes the likes of Stevie Wonder, Noël Coward, John Legend, Irving Berlin, Freddy Mercury, Fats Waller, Cole Porter and Billy Joel — an outstanding octave of pianistic power — and together with a driving percussionist and thrumming double bassist, shares his love for these iconic creators.

Keyboard Killers combines Von Memerty’s skill with the drama of Bohemian Rhapsody; the swinging cool of I Get A Kick out Of You; the wicked wit of Don’t Put Your Daughter On the Stage Mrs Worthington; the romance of Ordinary People; the razzle-dazzle of Puttin’ On the Ritz; the groove of Isn’t She Lovely; and the toe- tapping stride of Aint Misbehaving, to create an exciting production. — Staff Writer

l The show is staged from Wednesday to Friday at 8pm, on Saturday at 4pm and 8pm, and on Sunday at 3pm, 0861 915 8000.
