New bandanna designs
Students of the Durban University of Technology have come up trumps in a competition to design a bandanna for next year’s Sunflower Fund’s Bandanna Day.
Third-year students at colleges across South Africa were invited by the Fund to design a bandanna. The DUT’s Bianca Booth and Collette Hertz scooped first prize of R7 000 worth of Pick n Pay vouchers, while third place went to DUT students Kylie Follcard and Aadilah Patel, who received R1 000 in Pick n Pay vouchers.
Second place went to Kirsten Steward of Cape Technikon.
National Bandanna Day is the main fund-raising event for The Sunflower Fund, and this year more than R3 million was raised. Bandanna Day is on October 12, 2013, and South Africans are urged to buy a bandanna and to wear it.
The Sunflower Fund aims to educate and recruit potential bone marrow stem cell donors that are ethnically diverse in an effort to save the lives of those needing a transplant when suffering from life-threatening blood disorders.
