Garden Daydreams and Winged Daydreams: Hand drawn designs to colour in

by Monique Day-Wilde (Metz Press)

Beware. These books should come with a warning – colouring-in can be addictive.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would derive so much pleasure from the simple, solitary act of colouring in.

I have a range of books in my collection and, depending on my mood, spend at least an hour every day getting lost in a world of Mandalas, gardens, birds or dreams. It’s loads of fun.

These books are a great adult stocking filler this Christmas. Watch out for them in stores.

Bull Mountain

by Brian Panowich (Head of Zeus)

As sheriff of Bull Mountain, Clayton Burroughs is the black sheep of his brutal, criminal family.

From running moonshine over six state lines to farming the largest marijuana crop on the East Coast, to being the dominant suppliers of meth in the southern states – the Burroughs’s clan history is steeped in blood and brutality.

An uneasy pact exists between Clayton and his clan.

But when a federal agent arrives in town determined to shut down Bull Mountain, things change.

Now loyalties will be tested and brother will be pitted against brother. It will have devastating consequences for Clayton.

Anxious

by Joseph LeDoux (Jonathan Ball)

Panic attacks, OCD, PTSD – anxiety is all around us and is said to be the most prevalent psychiatric problem of our time.

Joseph LeDoux believes that anxiety is not an innate stress, waiting to be unleashed. He says anxiety results from experiences we assemble cognitively and this has implications for how people are treated.

I’m not sure this is a book I want to look at as the holidays approach.

But it is certainly a book clinicians and therapists should take a look at.
