Pretoria - The case of the man who is accused of the murder of Pretoria teenager Anika Smit has been postponed to allow him to undergo psychiatric evaluation.

Johannes Andreas van Wyk, who stands accused of murder, rape, and mutilation, appeared briefly at the Pretoria North Magistrate Court on Monday morning.

The State asked for the matter to be postponed to October 25 while it awaited a bed for Van Wyk at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital.

Smit's death has been shrouded with mystery since she was found dead in her Theresa Park home on March 10, 2010.

Her throat had been slit, she had been sexually assaulted and her hands were cut off. The limbs have still not been found.

Previously at an ongoing inquest into her murder, it was heard that Anika could have dabbled in satanism and the occult.

On September 16, Van Wyk handed himself over to the police, claiming to have information regarding Anika's murder.
