Police recovered three vehicles, suspected to have been hijacked, at the Pine Parkade in the Durban city centre on Sunday.
The VW Polo, Opel Corsa bakkie and an Audi were found on the fourth level of the parkade, where they were allegedly left by the hijackers a few days ago for a “cooling off” period.
Four other cars were recovered from a car sales business on the upper floor of the parkade after it was found their engine and chassis numbers had allegedly been tampered with.
Members of the Isipingo Vehicle Identification Section (VIS) on the scene said the parkade was not a “hot spot”, as such, for leaving vehicles to “cool off”, but vehicles had been recovered there once before, a few months ago.
Provincial police spokesman, Captain Khephu Ndlovu, confirmed one suspect had been arrested for possession of a stolen Toyota Tazz.
The suspect is being detained at the Durban Central police station.
Ndlovu said he was unable to comment on the other vehicles recovered by the VIS, as they are still the focus of an ongoing investigation.
