The State has withdrawn charges against Jenaidé Charles, who had been accused of assaulting a police officer.

Charles rose to notoriety earlier this year after he and three friends, Rajiv Narandas, Samuel Parusnath and Avishkar Jaganath, were found guilty of attempting to kill Lance Moodley, the son of racehorse owner, Roy Moodley, at Blue Lagoon in March 2008.

The State yesterday provisionally withdrew the assault charge because of insufficient evidence.

He had been accused of choking a female police officer, from behind, at the Plush nightclub in Intersite Avenue, Springfield, on July 4.

Outside court, Charles said he was relieved.

“I am very happy that these charges have been dropped.

“It was honestly a case of mistaken identity,” he said.
