Antananarivo - A cyclone has left 16 people dead in Madagascar, disaster officials on the Indian Ocean island said Wednesday.
Among the dead were six killed when a building collapsed in Alaotra Mangoro, said Richard Ramandeamanana, a government official in that eastern region of the island.
The national disaster office on Wednesday reported the national toll of 16, and added 65 people were injured.
Cyclone Giovanna struck land about at 1am on Tuesday in Brickaville, 260km east of the capital, Antananarivo. It brought heavy rain and high winds and some neighbourhoods in the capital and elsewhere were flooded. The worst of the storm was over by Tuesday afternoon. - Sapa-AP
