Mark Colvin, a medical doctor and epidemiologist based in Durban, died on Tuesday at his Bluff residence after suffering a heart attack.
Colvin had 22 years’ experience in public health research in Southern Africa and was the CEO of Maromi Health Research.
He was also very vocal on the approach taken by local government on HIV/Aids.
Despite the high HIV rate, there was “no co-ordinated city level response to HIV/Aids”, Colvin said last year.
His sister, Louise Colvin, said the family was “devastated”.
