The Southern African Freelancers' Association and DA on Sunday expressed shock and sadness at the death of journalist and author Heidi Holland.
“Safrea wishes to extend its condolences to her family in this difficult time,” chairwoman Helen Ueckermann said in a statement.
She said Holland's articles in international newspapers such as The Telegraph, The New York Times and The Guardian, and her acclaimed books, made her a freelancer to be reckoned with.
Democratic Alliance chairman Wilmot James said: “She stood firm on principles and was one of the country's foremost democratic voices.”
James said Holland had “considerable” insight into the persona of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe.
In 2008 she published a book on the life and career of Mugabe entitled “Dinner with Mugabe”.
The 64-year-old was found dead in her home in Melville, Johannesburg, on Saturday. Police said her death was possibly a suicide. - Sapa
