DURBAN - University of KwaZulu-Natal students pelted police with rocks, stoned passing cars and threw objects off a high rise building on Monday after the bus that apparently picks them up for class did not arrive.Police had their hands full trying to contain the rampaging students who barricaded themselves in a student residential building and threw projectiles from the roof top.

Police cordoned off a block at east end Dr Pixley Ka Seme Street.

Traffic around the area had to be diverted while police tried to contain the situation.

Several cars had reportedly sustained damage during the violence. It was unclear if anyone was injured.

Police were standing off at the student residence.

According to students, there is an ongoing dispute between the buses contracted to pick them up from their residence and take them to Howard College campus and taxis operating in the area.
