Minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande
Media reports on corruption are often not a “reflection of the truth”, says Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande.
Speaking in the National Assembly this week, he said it was necessary to distinguish between anti-corruption efforts that were reported in the media and those that were not.
Many corruption investigations had been instigated by the government through the Special Investigating Unit.
“Often what the media say in this country is not the reflection of the truth,” Nzimande said.
Last week, President Jacob Zuma said South Africa was the only country with a “programme” to fight corruption.
He said it was “important to emphasise that most of the corruption you read about in the media is exposed as a result of the work of the government and its agencies”. – Daily News Correspondent
