Four SA National Parks officials appeared in the White River Magistrate's Court on Thursday in connection with rhino poaching.

They are traffic officer Doctor Mabusa Mgwenyama, field ranger Tiyanan Mabunda, and two guides, Charles Mabunda and Duncan Mnisi.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga said the four would be back in court on March 14. They face charges of poaching and defeating the ends of justice.

“The case was postponed for formal bail application and they remain in custody,” Mhaga said.

All four worked in the Kruger National Park. They were arrested on February 28 after a rhino cow and her calf were found shot and dehorned in the park. They were stationed in the Pretoriuskop section of the park, where 11 rhinos had been killed since the beginning of the year. - Sapa
