Gerald Rosselloty
Gerald Rosselloty denied raping a six-year-old girl, murdering his girlfriend and setting fire to his simplex unit, the High Court in Pietermaritzburg heard on Tuesday.
The confessed heavy drinker did not explain how the child, who spent most of the day with him, had been raped.
Rosselloty, 40, dropped the child at her grandmother's house afterwards, where it was discovered that the child was bleeding badly.
She was taken to hospital, where her injuries had to be surgically repaired, and later she was treated by a gynaecologist in hospital.
In a room adjoining the court, the girl - now aged 11 - told the court through an intermediary that Rosselloty had told her he had a present for her.
She said he made her strip, threw her on a bed, smeared cream on himself and raped her.
In charges unrelated to the rape charge, Rosselloty is also being prosecuted for arson and the murder of his girlfriend. - Sapa
