Durban - Social grants are being paid early to avoid disruption during the elections in less than two weeks.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) said payments would be made from July 27 to 29.

There would be no payments at paypoints from August 1 to 3 because of the local government elections, Sassa spokesman, Kgomoco Diseko, said.

Payment at paypoints will resume on August 4 until the last payment date. Diseko said payments would be made without interruption from July 27 to August 25 for beneficiaries using other payment channels such as ATMs and stores.

Enquiries to Sassa can be made at 0800 60 10 11.
