A 15-year-old boy pleaded guilty to the rape of a two-year-old girl at the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court on Wednesday.
The teenager stood with a blank expression on his face as he was remanded in custody until October 31, when he will be sentenced.
The case was adjourned on Wednesday to allow for pre-sentencing reports to be compiled.
According to the teen’s statement, he was playing with the little girl near the Deda Location in Taylors Halt on May 25 this year, when the incident occurred.
“We were playing behind her (victim’s) house and then we entered one of the houses that was still being built and continued playing,” the teen said.
He explained that a short while later he instructed the little girl to stand on a cement block. The toddler did as she was told and the teenager lifted her skirt.
“I noticed that she was not wearing any underwear. I then took off my trousers and underwear, knelt down and raped her,” the teen said.
He continued that as he was raping the little girl, her mother walked in and asked him what he was doing.
“She assaulted me and took me to my home where she assaulted me again. I know what I did was wrong and I am very remorseful for my actions,” he said.
The mother of the girl said that her family was very traumatised by the rape and that her daughter was a different child since it happened.
“I want justice. This boy must not be allowed to do this to another innocent baby,” she said.
