Three people have been confirmed dead after an 18-wheeler truck lost control on the N2 in Durban and ploughed into at least 12 cars, paramedics and police said.
Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said a 10-year-old boy and an 11-year old boy, as well as the father of one of the boys were killed.
The truck went downhill, colliding with numerous vehicles before going over an embankment into a construction site close to where the N2 crosses Umgeni Road.
It dragged two cars with it into the construction works being done at the bridge.
Botha said he believed one of the cars belonged to a holidaymaker, as fishing rods and Monopoly money were scattered over the accident scene.
He said two other people were seriously injured while another two were treated for minor injuries.
A crane was being used to lift the truck. It was not immediately clear how many other people were injured.
eThekwini metro police spokesman Superintendent Eugene Msomi said police were still on scene by early evening. - Sapa
