Acting deputy city manager Phillip Sithole
The Top Gear show tickets bought by the eThekwini municipality for its councillors were budgeted for, says acting deputy city manager for sustainable development, Phillip Sithole.
“Everything was done within a budget,” Sithole told members of the executive committee on Tuesday after it was reported that R25 000 had been used to pay for the 200 complimentary suite tickets for councillors.
An irate deputy mayor Nomvuzo Shabalala said this figure had been thumb-sucked.
“The event was a success and it generated more than R400 million in investments,” she said.
Sithole, who was expected to table a full report on the motoring festival, said more than 60 000 people had attended the two day event.
“The Top Gear officials said this was the most successful event they have ever had,” he said. – Daily News Reporter
