One of the largest concerns for environmental activists is the human cost of climate change, and will be one of the focuses during the Durban-hosted 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17).
This is why Greenpeace Africa, in their Solar Cinema on North Beach, will be showcasing a film to this effect later this month. Campaigns director Olivia Langhoff, said the documentary The Weather Gods, explored how the dramatic shifts in climatic zones was devastating the lives of millions of Africans.
It captured the stories of rural communities in Zululand, South Africa, Mali and the Turkana District in Kenya.
“Each case study is exemplified by individuals who invite us into their daily lives and explain in their own words the changes they are facing.”
This, she said, acted as a “clarion call” to the world’s leaders to take drastic action now to avoid further devastation. Ann Lamont, a Greenpeace Africa board member, and musician Hugh Masekela would be the guest speakers at the event.
The film is a joint venture between Greenpeace Africa and Uhuru Productions, directed by leading documentary film-makers, Rehad Desai.
The documentary will be followed by a discussion led by panellists from various sectors, allowing viewers the chance to discuss the issues with experts from various sectors.
The film will be screened on November 30.
