Considering Justin Bieber’s repeated misdemeanours of late, it’s clear the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
The pop star’s father Jeremy, who has been his son’s wingman during most of his latest indicretions, himself boasts a pretty chequered past.
According to gossip site RadarOnline, Bieber snr has a history of assault charges and jail time.
The webiste alleges that although Canadian court documents for Jeremy Bieber’s cases have been destroyed, they have managed to obtain a document from the Ministry of the Attorney General in stratford Ontario which states that he was arrested for “assault causing bodily harm”. For that 1997 charge, Bieber was sentenced to 90 days jail time, two years probation and a 10-year ban on using firearms.
According to the document, Jeremy Bieber was further sentenced to two year’s probation and 21 days in jail in 1999. He was then sentenced to a further 30 days in jail for failing to comply with the conditions of his probation.
In 2002, he was arrested again for “assault causing bodily harm”. The case was dismissed in 2004.
Last week, Justin Bieber paid tribute to his father on Instagram, saying: “I have the greatest Dad in the world. He's taught me how to love, learn, and stay true to myself. I will forever be grateful because he was my superehero #batman.”
The young star is clearly in awe of his father, but his attempts to follow in his footsteps is leading to serial run-ins with the law.
Last week, the singer turned himself in to Toronto authorities after he was charged with assaulting a limo driver.
According to gossip site TMZ, the assault started when Bieber asked the driver to urn up the volume on the radio. When this was not done to his satisfaction, Bieber allegedly stuck his hand through the partition and did it himself. But when the limo driver swatted the singer’s hand away, it turned into a full-scale fight. Bieber is accused of hitting the driver on his head several times. - Tonight Reporter
