Hearts were broken all over the Cape on Sunday night when the crown for SA’s Got Talent went to a Pretoria dance crew.

Despite having four superb contestants in the final six of the popular reality TV show, Cape Town failed to cast enough votes for them to win, and it was the fleet-footed Kryptonite Dance Academy that walked away with the R500 000 cash prize.

Although singer Derek Plaatjies and drag entertainer Manila von Teez managed to get into the top three, unlucky Cape Town was simply not good enough this year.

Kryptonite Dance Academy got a well-deserved standing ovation for their performance.

The lively crew were on fire and had DJ Fresh in tears.

Fresh said the group, aged 10-25, with two writing their Matric chemistry paper today, have achieved more than he could hope for.

It was all glitz and glam as the six finalists of the SAGT 2016 gave it their all to prove they deserved the half a million rand prize money.

First up was Jessie Govender, 18, from KwaZulu-Natal, singing Wake Me Up by Avicii, with Judge Shado Twala impressed by his “diversity”.

Ballad

Fresh added: “I’m just glad you did not sing a ballad.”

Second up was Goodwood lip sync artist Manila, 26, with a wild performance, and thankfully no wigs went flying this week.

Sporting blonde hair that turned flaming red hair mid-performance, she belted out Christina Aguilera’s Get it Up, and the judges loved it.

Former drug mule and Manenberg mom of three, Phoenix, aka Bernadette Adams, sang Tina Turner’s Proud Mary, to the delight of all the judges.

Jamie Bartlett said she brought out her “sexuality”.

It seems nerves got the better of Derek, 22.

The singer from Saron decided to perform without his guitar, doing Justin Timberlake’s Can’t stop the feeling. Jamie felt Derek had been using his guitar as a crutch and appeared lost without it.

“You threw your crutch away,” he said after the disappointing performance.

The Professionals from Langa did a Pantsula medley, and Shado said: “You brought the love of pantsula back to South Africa.”But in the end, it was the Kryptonites who showed no weakness and won the competition.
