French close season with ethereal stunt

SOUTH Africa applauds the success of the France-South Africa Seasons 2012-2013 with a closing ceremony in Durban this weekend.

The heads of the two countries entered a multifaceted bilateral collaboration earlier this year to improve mutual understanding and contribute to the diversification of South Africa’s image in France and vice versa.

More than 100 projects, exhibitions, concerts, performances, colloquiums and interactive sessions have take place across the country over the past six months.

The closing ceremony on Saturday in the city centre cultural precinct – including the Playhouse and city hall – will feature a spectacular outdoor show called Place des Anges (Angels’ Place).

France’s Studios de Cirque have been creating unforgettable aerial displays around the world for a decade and this is a once-in-a-lifetime oppor-tunity for the people of Durban to experience this showcase. Expect a half-ton of feathers to be dropped down on to you by glorious angels floating across the sky in one of the world’s most splendid aerial trapeze displays. The spectacle commences at 8pm, and the show is free – it is France’s cultural gift to the people of Durban.

The French Season in South Africa opened in June and closes officially with this event. It will be followed by the South African Season in France between May and December next year.
