Who is the fairest man in the land?

The Mr South Africa pageant is hoping to answer that question – as it does every year.

On Monday, the Mr South Africa Top 50 contestants were announced as the pageant was drawing closer.

After a gruelling process of elimination and many tough decisions to get to the 50, Mr South Africa chief executive Rudi Baker congratulated the finalists.

“This year, the competition was bigger than ever, with 118 great men entering. Cutting the list down to only 50 contestants was a difficult and complex process,” he said.

Baker said the 50 front runners demonstrated leadership and management abilities, planning and entrepreneurial skills, innovative thinking and creative problem-solving capabilities.

“The top 50 have proved that they are ready to be groomed as South Africa’s ‘Men of Honour’.

“This means they share this philosophy and accept a lifestyle that means they do not only have the ability, but the duty to positively influence the lives of others – every day – as a representative of our great country,” says Baker.

Some of this year’s finalists include Morné Marais, Drian Maree and Patrick Mashapa.

The pageant has been running since 1982, and former winners include Michael Moll, Marcus Muller and Dieter Voigt. The current Mr South Africa is John Owens.

The event will be held in Joburg on December 12. - The Star
