They say no publicity is bad publicity for the rich and famous. And if it keeps you in the news and on everyone’s lips, all the better for your celebrity status. Despite this belief, celebrity feuds and fall-outs played out in public never fail to inspire shock and horror in many who witness them. Here are some of the more recent clashes:
Mariah and Nicki: Nicki blasts ‘her f*****g highness’ Mariah
The diva dust-up between Mariah Carey and Nicky Minaj turned nasty on American idol, with Nicki losing it in front of a live audience. “I told them I’m not f***ing putting up with your f***ing highness over there,” she said. The war, which spilled over onto Twitter lasted for an entire season, but this public spat between the judges wasn’t enough to save the show from being a ratings flop.
Amanda and Rihanna: ‘Chris beat you because you're not pretty’
Former child star in the midst of a very public meltdown Amanda Bynes took to Twitter with reckless abandon. Having informed rapper Drake that she wanted him to “murder her vagina”, she then took aim at pop wild child Rihanna, saying “Chris beat you because you're not pretty”. Riri responded with a curt “Ya see what happens when they cancel Intervention?”, which pretty much ended the fight despite a subsequent Bynes rant about how much prettier she was.
Chris and Frank: ‘Chris Brown jumped me’
R&B bad boy Chris Brown and Frank Ocean took a misunderstood tweet to a whole new level, with an offended Ocean comparing Brown to infamous wife-beater Ike Turner. Brown and his army of goons later jumped Ocean and his friends in an unseemly parking lot brawl. Things have been relatively quiet since then, but the bad feeling clearly still runs deep. Ocean has just released a track called Versace, in which he taunts Chris about Rihanna: “You had a formula. One hit the wall. Now you Aryton Senna (sic). You had you a lady, then she hurt your ego. Now you can’t forgive her”.
Madge and Elton: Madonna like a ‘f*****g fairground stripper’
Elton John and Madonna have been at it for a decade, with the choicest barbs coming from the Candle In the Wind singer. Having derided her Bond tune as the worst ever in 2002, John tore into Madonna for lip-synching and picking a fight with Gaga. “She looks like a f***ing fairground stripper,” he said, declaring her tour a disaster. He later apologised for his outbursts, claiming he should never have engaged in a public spat.
Rimes and Glanville: ‘Skinny b***h’ stole her husband
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville has been venting her fury like the scorned woman she is, ever since country singer LeAnn Rimes had an affair with, and later married her husband Eddie Cibrian. Their feud lasted so long, even Courtney Love managed to get involved. Glanville, however, threw the biggest punches, labelling Rimes a “skinny b**ch” with an eating disorder and an “Angelfish” - sings like an angel, drinks like a fish.
Oprah and Chong: ‘She would have been a field n***er’
Actress Rae Dawn Chong, whose father starred in the “Cheech and Chong” stoner series of films, must have been messing with her dad’s private stash when she chose to pick a fight with Oprah. Chong, who starred alongside Oprah in the film ‘The Colour Purple’, tore into the world’s favourite talk show host, calling her insecure and so ugly, “she would have been a field n***er” back in the days of slavery. Oprah has yet to respond, but you don’t just take on the mighty O and get away with it.
