Nu Metro and Ster-Kinekor cinemas have released details of their forthcoming Tamil film releases over the next month.
Here’s a glance at some of what is coming up…
• From August 15: Mundasupatti (at Nu Metro Cinemas Pavilion, Galleria and Emperors Palace)
Mundasupatti is a 2014 Tamil adventure comedy film directed by Ram, starring Vishnu and Nandita.
Produced by Thirukumaran Entertainment’s CV Kumar in association with Fox Star Studios, it features music by Sean Roldan, with editing by Leo John Paul and camerawork by PV Sankar.
Based on a short film Ram shot in 2011 for the TV show Naalaya Iyakunar, the film is set in the 1980s in a fictional village called Mundasupatti, where people believe bad luck will befall them if they are photographed.
The story tells what happens when two photographers visit the village.
OneIndia.in reporter Ramchander writes that it seems Mundasupatti was well received by some of the industry’s who’s who when it released in India.
Superstar Rajinikanth, impressed by the Tamil film, said: “I really loved the film, especially the performances of Vishnu, Ramadass and Kaali.
“I would really like to congratulate producer CV Kumar and Fox Star Studios India for producing a wholesome family entertainer.”
Lead hero Vishnu Vishal said: “I take this joyous moment following the success of my film Mundasupatti to convey my heartfelt thanks to media, theatre owners, distributors and exhibitors associated with this film.
“I want to thank my producers, CV Kumar and Fox Star Studios, my director Ram Kumar and the entire Mundasupatti team and unit people, my friends from the industry and the generous public for making the movie successful.

• From August 15: Anjaan (SterKinekor Gateway, Rosebank The Zone, Centurion: Forest Hill), Cape Town: Cavendish
Anjaan (Fearless) is a forthcoming Tamil action thriller directed by N Lingusamy and produced under his banner Thirupathi Brothers.
The film stars Suriya in a dual role, with Samantha Ruth Prabhu as the female lead. Bollywood actors Manoj Bajpai, Vidyut Jamwal, Rajpal Yadav and Dalip Tahil play supporting roles.
Cinematography was handled by Santosh Sivan and editing by Anthony, while Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the music.
The Telugu-dubbed version has been titled Sikander. The film has been listed as being in the “Top 10 most anticipated films of 2014”.
It’s about friendship and what a person can do for a friend. Vidyut Jamwal appears as Suriya’s friend and Samantha as Suriya’s love Interest. Anjaan is being released at more than 3 500 screens worldwide.
• From September 5: Vaaya Moodi Pesavum (at Nu Metro Cinemas Pavilion, Galleria and Emperors Palace)
Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (Speak With Your Mouth Shut) is a 2014 Tamil romantic comedy film.
The work is directed by Balaji Mohan and Dulquer Salman and Nazriya Nazim appear in the leading roles.
Sean Roldan scored the music, while Soundararajan was the cinematographer and Abhinav Sunder Nayak the editor.
The film is a social and political satire that portrays the impact of a rare strain of flu spreading in a village that makes people lose their ability to speak. Dulquer plays a salesman who sells an adhesive called Dr Fix It.
The director has used flu as a metaphor for the society that has lost it’s ability to speak out against wrong and injustice.
Through it’s plot and sub-characters, the movie aims to show that the lack of communication is the root cause of our social and political problems.
