Dance fanatics should brace themselves for a whirlwind of mixes. The Dutch master mixologist has injected every fierce trance beat possible, so for the house and techno fans this album may not appeal to you. If you’re a fan of Tiësto’s original trance mixes, you won’t be disappointed.
In the game for more than 18 years, the man knows his stuff. This latest offering boasts mixes of new and old, easy-listening and harder style, vocals and instrumentals, good and… less good.
Set to capture the night life of Miami, the album showcases building synths with the uncharacteristically hard drop that serves as a transition into the next track of the album.
In addition to his own original tracks, he has also ventured into taking on big anthems and adding his own flavour to Gotye featuring Kimbra’s Somebody That I Used To Know. While I would have expected something more crafty, Tiësto’s remix falls somewhat short.
The overall production is just a little too generic big-room house to complement the melancholy vibe of the vocals.
However, he lends a nice unique feel to Coldplay’s Paradise with an opening of fat slow synths, leading intricate stings and a drop of euphoria. – Tina George
