All about that talent.

The one thing you need to make peace with is that Meghan Trainor is playful on this doo-wop album. The major track is All About That Bass which sets a precedent of what to expect from the offering.

Surprisingly, the singer, who is only in her early 20s, has an old soul which is reflected on the album. The first attraction is her rich voice which makes use of the clear vibrato she so effortlessly projects.

You get the feeling that you are listening to something Diana Ross would be singing today if she was 21, especially on Dear Future Husband, which is in the vein of You Can’t Hurry Love.

Then there are also contemporary songs like 3am and Close Your Eyes which are reminiscent of the soul of Laura Izibor.

Things get really serious on Like I’m Gonna Lose You which features John Legend and has his stamp all over it.

Overall, Trainor manages to convince any critic that this album does not rely on one hit for its success. Think of a bubbly Amy Winehouse and you’ll get what this album sounds like. – Munya Vomo
