GIG OF THE WEEK

Eminem

Ellis Park Stadium (tomorrow)

Coming to Joburg for the first time, US rapper Eminem (pictured) promises fans an unforgettable time.

He has already performed in Cape Town.

As a controversial figure who has won 13 Grammys and one Oscar, you know he will put on a stellar performance. His rapping skills are unmatched and he has

so many hit songs that it would

be impossible for him to perform them all in just one concert.

We are talking going back

to early 2000 when he dropped

The Real Slim Shady to when he recorded Stan with Dido (2009). Most fans love the classics like Lose Yourself and the more recent I’m Not Afraid, which is the theme song for the popular video game NBA 2K14.

I am wanting to hear I Need a Doctor, the track he does with Dr Dre in which the pair are almost picking up where they ended on Guilty Conscience.

No one quite has the formula

of how to reinvent themselves the way Eminem does and that’s what keeps him ahead. Being white and performing in what is perceived to be a black man’s genre, Eminem has had to fight for his place, with some blacks telling him he is not welcome, while some whites labelled him a traitor “wigger”. But who cares about all that when you have 13 Grammys and 23 nominations? Even Kanye’s

ego bows down to Slim Shady.

To the younger crowd only catching on now, you might be lucky to hear him rap on Rihanna’s Love the Way You Lie but if he doesn’t you’ll still enjoy what he has to offer. – Munya Vomo

•The show takes place at Ellis Park Stadium (44 Staib St, Doornfontein) and begins at 9pm. Tickets: R400 to R1 250 at Computicket.
