KT Tunstall is a huge film buff, so was happy about the chance to write a song for Winter’s Tale.
Given a synopsis of the film she wrote Miracle while on tour in Los Angeles:
“It was so liberating for me, because I felt that film was this huge thing that would probably require me to ask for the help of others, but I literally got this song done on my own, on a laptop on a moving bus.”
Ever since breaking into the public eye with a solo performance of her first hit, Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, on British TV in 2004, Tunstall has enjoyed critical and commercial success in the UK as well as breaking into the US market.
She has recorded five studio albums and is known for her live performances, sometimes using a four-piece band and sometimes performing solo, as she will at Kirstenbosch on Thursday night.
“I use two or three different guitars to get different sounds, I use my electric guitar amp and most importantly I’ve got my loop pedals. I can create a massive racket, even though it’s just me on my own,” she said.
Because she has never played here before she wants to go back over the past 10 years and pick a set of favourites for Kirstenbosch.
• Tunstall performs at the Parklife Festival at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens on Thursday night, along with American surf rocker Donovan Frankenreiter and Durban singer songwriter Farryl Purkiss.
