The United States rock band Metallica will perform in South Africa next year April, Big Concerts announced on Monday.

Metallica would perform two concerts: one in Cape Town on April 24 and the second in Johannesburg on April 27, it said.

Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo, who are collectively known as Metallica, have sold 110 million albums world-wide. The band last toured South Africa in 2006.

They have scored almost a dozen multi-platinum albums, including 1991's Metallica, commonly referred to as “The Black Album”.

Metallica have garnered numerous awards and accolades, including nine Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards.

They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.
