CELEBRATING 20 years of democracy through the arts on Saturday will be the Ugu Jazz Festival. Taking place at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre in Port Shepstone, the line-up includes Hugh Masekela, Johnny Clegg, Ringo, Zakes Bantwini, MiCasa, DJs Pascal and Pearce, Naima K and more.

At a media briefing held at the Riverside Hotel in Durban North, festival organisers Cyassound Holdings announced that Ugu has partnered with the KZN Department of Arts and Culture, Hibiscus Coast Municipality, Nestlé, SMG South Coast, Isolezwe, Ukhozi FM, Ugu Youth Radio, Brandhouse and Ricoffy.

Cyassound Holdings project manager, Sinethemba Jenkins, said: “In 2012, there was quite a large attendance for the festival. This year, the venue will not be taking in more than 15 000 patrons.”

There will be plenty of pre- and post-entertainment in honour of the festival.

On Friday, the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre will host a comedy show and some of the country’s finest musicians and DJs will perform at the Marburg Sports Ground for the jazz pre-party.

On Sunday, patrons can enjoy the Bon Voyage Amstel Picnic (at no cost) which will be held at St Michael’s Beach, with performances by DJs Black Coffee, Vinny Da Vinci, Christos and more.
