Music legend Barbra Streisand will perform at the Academy Awards for the first time in 36 years, organizers announced Wednesday.
Streisand's performance at the February 24 show will reinforce what was already an impressive line-up of talent including Adele, Jennifer Hudson, Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway, as producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan attempt to boost ratings for Hollywood's top awards.
“In an evening that celebrates the artistry of movies and music, how could the telecast be complete without Barbra Streisand?” they asked, in a statement announcing her performance. “We are honoured that she has agreed to do a very special performance on this year's Oscars, her first time singing on the show in 36 years.”
Streisand, who won a best actress Oscar for her 1968 movie Hello Dolly, last sang at the Oscars in 1977, when she won the best original song Oscar for Evergreen from the film A Star is Born.Author: Andy Goldberg - Sapa-dpa
