l The Only Way is Essex, BBC Entertainment, 20.30

A series on the gorgeous people of Essex, who’ve become instant stars in TV’s newest real-life soap opera. The über-glam world of Essex is the backdrop to the series: nail bars, wine bars, spray tans, flash cars, big watches – these people live it large and just can’t get enough drama into their lives. Each show is filmed just days before the UK broadcast, so the cast learn what’s been going on behind their backs just by watching it. The next episode features the fallout from the last.

l Whale Wars: Viking Shores, Animal Planet, 21.00

In the North Atlantic lie the Faroe Islands, a self-governing Danish territory of 50 000 people. But there is a dark shadow over this land. Every year, Faroese people gather to herd pilot whales to be killed for their meat. Whale Wars: Viking Shores follows the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society as it sets sail to end this ancient tradition.

l Leverage, Sony Entertainment Television, 21.20

The fourth season involves Nate as the prime suspect in a classic whodunit mystery, while the team pursues a lost Van Gogh painting, tries to steal a revolutionary new computer chip and tracks down a “stolen” heart.

l Grill It! With Bobby Flay, Food Network, 22.40

Chicken doesn’t have to take a long time to cook when you flatten it out for the grill. Bobby Flay and Micahel Haye show how they season and grill whole chicken. Next Bobby’s guest Jamie Watson offers a speedy version of a pork sandwich with coleslaw piled high on corn flatbread. For drinks, it’s Bobby’s favourite, bourbon.
