SABC3’s hit local drama, High Rollers, is going to be much better now that Thapelo Mokoena is set to join the production. It is not even mid-year yet, but Mokoena has already had a good year.

After finally announcing that he is quitting the Hunter’s Cider ambassador gig, the man has now decided to push other huge gigs.

The end of this month will see the release of yet another movie starring Mokoena, Mrs Right Guy. The film features celebrated talents like Dineo Moeketsi, Thando Thabethe and Mpho Popps. Mokoena is also going to be the host of Sony Max’s Fear Factor SA later this the year.

The actor joins High Rollers at a time when the casino drama has a cult following and will surely strengthen the show’s appeal.

Mokoena’s character is Jakes Xaba, a charming, well-educated and well-travelled young man who is liked by many. A drawback when it comes to Jakes is his complex personality which hides more than what people can see at first glance.

“We’re excited to be able to add Thapelo to an already-strong cast on the show. His character is one viewers will follow religiously because you never know what he’s going to do next,” said the show’s executive producer, Meren Reddy.

After starring in Generations, Isidingo, Khota Life Crisis and The Lab, it is undeniable that the SABC has been responsible for much of Mokoena’s success.

He may have rubbed shoulders with the likes of Idris Elba on the set of the film Long Walk To Freedom, but Mokoena remains a calm individual who is humble concerning his accomplishments.

If you have watched High Rollers, you’ll know that Mokoena is well-equipped to star alongside the high-calibre cast. The local show is a high-end, well-scripted casino drama and features everything from gambling addiction to fast-paced action scenes. If you like shows like NCIS or Chicago Fire and that casino film, Now You See Me, then High Rollers will do it for you. Now that Mokoena is on board, there is even more reason to watch it.

High Rollers is broadcast Mondays to Wednesdays at 7.30pm on SABC3.
