She is a well-known figure in gospel circles as well as a TV presenter and author, but Zanele Mbokazi’s greatest achievement so far is being the brain behind the annual Crown Gospel Awards ceremony which attracts the who’s who, including President Jacob Zuma.

Mbokazi returns to her TV roots with a spiritual talk show, Khwezela no Zanele Mbokazi. The informative and spiritually uplifting show will focus on issues close to many South Africans’ hearts. These may include relationships, overcoming adversity and finding inner strength. The show aims to rebuild the nation by reviving strong family values and shaping the moral landscape through inspiring stories. This is the opposite of what the newspapers’ headlines are made of.

“I am a preacher of the Word (of God), an author and an inspirational speaker,” said Mbokazi.

“Since 2008 we have been doing the Khwezela Seminars for singles and married couples. I have always been fascinated by relationships.

“When I went through my divorce, I realised there was so much that I could have done differently if I had been better equipped. Therefore I promised myself that I would push to assist single people to understand themselves and the institution of marriage before they make their vows. The same goes for married couples – a lot of people live a lie because of relationships having gone wrong.”

With shocking divorce figures all over the world, perhaps the country needs a show like this, because the traditional African moral guide has been eroded by modernisation. We don’t have uncles and aunts to advise young people on relationships.

Khwezela No Zanele will play this critical role, using television as a medium that enjoys a far greater reach into communities. The talk show will use Christian principles as the ultimate compass and guide on all relationship issues.

“The topic of relationships and how better to handle them is relevant to our target audience,” said SABC1 publicity manager Vukile Madlala. “Our aim is to provide viewers with sound spiritual principles to inspire them to manage better relationships.”

• Watch Khwezela No Zanele Mbokazi every Sunday on SABC1 at 5.30pm.
