The studio and director Guy Ritchie might just need a genie in a bottle to find the perfect male lead for the remake of the 1992 classic Aladdin.

A global casting call was launched in March for the musical rendition of the Disney classic, but finding a male lead in his 20s, who can sing and dance, has proven difficult, especially since Aladdin needs to be someone of Middle-Eastern or Indian decent to follow the original story line.

Around 2 000 actors and actresses have auditioned for the roles of Jasmine and Aladdin, but no one has signed on the dotted line yet.

Rumour has it that the studio might consider Dev Patel, 27, and Indian actress Tara Sutaria, 23, to play Jasmine, but the only confirmed casting to date is Will Smith who will play Genie.

While Hollywood searches for the perfect pair, Twitter has jumped on board to help them decide. Fan favourites include Avan Jogia and Fawad Khan as Aladdin and Priyanka Chopra and Naomi Scott as Jasmine.
