MTV Base’s highly anticipated #MTVBaseVJSearch has finally made a return.

And if you think you have what it take to be the next superstar Video Jock, make sure you head down to the Olive Convention Centre, Durban on June 10, Belmont Square, Cape Town on June 17 and The Beach Hotel, Port Elizabeth on June 24 for auditions.

Entrants are also expected to have a passion for global and African youth culture and music, and must be authentic and “live life in colour”, just like the network’s audience.

Finalist will be announced on August 6 and the winner will be awarded a 12-month contract as an ambassador for MTV Base and also stands a chance to host MTV Base shows and interview some of the biggest music stars in the world at international award shows such as the Video Music Awards (VMAs), European Music Awards (EMAs), and The MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA).

Like the brand’s alumnus Sizwe Dhlomo, Vanessa Mdee, Sandile Ntshingila, Ehizojie “Ehiz” Okoeguale, Nomuzi Mabena and Fikile “Fix” Moeti, hopefuls need to prove themselves to a panel of expert judges when they shoot their on-camera audition.

“The video jock search is a true reflection of the power of the MTV and MTV Base brand on the continent. #MTVBaseVJSearch provides hope and inspires ability for the youth to reach for their dreams,” said Vice President for BET, Monde Twala.

He said it is an amazing opportunity for young and aspirant talent to be part of the MTV Africa family. “We encourage everyone to heed the call and show up in droves in this national drive to open up the industry and discover the next Sizwe, Sandile or Nomuzi Mabena”, said Twala.

The most recent winner for the search is Sandile Ntshingila. He said winning the competition opened many doors for him.

“Winning MTV Base VJ Search opened many doors for me, changed my life because it granted me the opportunity to meet people I admired in the music and television business while it also gave me the right platform to propel my dreams in other ventures that relate to the entertainment business,”said Ntshingila.

Registration for the MTV Base VJ Search auditions start at 8am at each venue.

Applicants are encouraged to be on-site early as auditions will take place on a first-come, first-served basis.

Prior presenting or TV experience is not required and only South African residents between the ages of 18-25 with fluent English can enter.

Applicants must bring a valid ID with them and be available to participate in the elimination phases of the competition between May 24 and July 30.
