The tragic death of iconic singer Whitney Houston on February 11 this year truly rocked the world.

The legendary artist, however, continues to live on through her music and, it’s safe to say, her songs have touched us all.

Aspiring artists around the world drew inspiration from Houston, among them well known local Jazz/R&B vocalist Natalie Rungan, who was deeply saddened by the superstar’s passing. Rungan is performing a tribute concert in honour of Houston this week.

Accompanying her on stage will be Mark Royeppen, Llewelyn Chetty, Bruce Baker and Martin Sigamoney.

In an interview with Tonight, Rungan said: “Whitney had the voice everyone, including myself, wanted to model after. She had that ingredient that every singer strives for, to transport the listener into the world she created. I wanted that.”

According to Rungan, hearing about Houston’s death was probably one of the saddest days of her life: “My big dream was to some day meet her to thank her for the role she played in my life and journey as a singer. I am sure that there are thousands like me who feel the same. I want to honour her memory and keep it alive through her music.”
