CATALINA THEATRE: Polart presents its second drama of the year, Beggar, from tomorrow to Sunday. A one-man play supported by excerpts from the movie of the same name. We look at people all the time, but do we see them? We hear people all the time, but are we listening to them? Beggar is a work of acute perception and dramatic vigour. BARNYARD THEATRE: Forever Young is dedicated to those singers who remain etched in our memories: Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Louis Armstrong, Barry White and Ray Charles as well as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Eddie Cochran. More recent singers who left their mark on our world are also featured such as John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse and Bob Marley. THE PLAYHOUSE: Celebrating its sixth anniversary, Think Theatre’s production of Shakespeare’s Othello stages until March 20. The production will then tour to Gauteng for a return season at the University of Johannesburg from May 5 to 16, followed by performances at the Brooklyn Theatre in Pretoria from May 18 to 22. Directed by Clare Mortimer, Durban Theatre Award-winner Nhlakanipho Manqele takes the title role for the first time, playing opposite fellow newcomer, Cara Roberts, as Desdemona. Also starring Clinton Small as Iago and Mortimer as his wife Emilia, with Michael Gritten, Daisy Spencer, Marc Kay, Bryan Hiles, Rowan Bartlett and Darren King. ELIZABETH SNEDDON THEATRE: The Seven Deadly Sins starring Aaron McIlroy and Lisa Bobbert stages until March 9. Fans will be treated to clues underlying our failure to stick to the path of virtue. Expect a line-up of satirical visual production elements and musical items, including renderings of songs such as Shaggy’s Hey, Sexy Lady, Britney Spears’s Toxic and Daft Punk’s Get Lucky, among others. DURBAN ICC: Award-winning British comedian and master of the edgy one-liner Jimmy Carr has teamed up with Comedy Central and Real Concerts for his new stand-up show Jimmy Carr – Gagging Order on March 31. Known for his signature laugh and near-the-knuckle dark humour, Carr knows how to make people chuckle, having performed live to more than 1.5 million comedy fans, sold more than a million DVDs and hosted countless TV shows. Gagging Order promises to be an hilarious night out, packed with one-liners, stories and jokes: some clever, some rude and a few downright unacceptable!
