NEW YORK COMEDY CLUB: Some of Durban’s finest comedians and new acts will be showcased tomorrow at the New York Comedy Club (New York Bar, 101 Innes Road, Morningside) during the Battle of the Noobs competition. Six new acts will compete for an awesome prize and the honour of being called “Noob of the Night”. SEABROOKES THEATRE: Durban High School’s Seabrooke’s Theatre will start the year with Tthinskin’s production of Callum’s Will, written and directed by Janna Ramos-Violante and starring Darren King and Clinton Small. The show will run until Sunday, February 10 at 7.30pm nightly, with no shows on Mondays. Callum’s Will, set in London in the early Nineties, takes the audience on an almost filmic experience as the unlikely relationship of the two male characters evolves from an awkward first encounter to a deep, lasting friendship which neither expects nor understands. BARNYARD THEATRE: You get the ultimate beach party experience in Surf’s Up, running until March 3. Surf’s Up will sail you to exotic musical destinations such as Jamaica, where you can dance the night away to the sounds of Bob Marley and UB 40. Then head to California for the sounds of The Beach Boys, and on to Miami with bikini girls Katy Perry and Sheryl Crow. Let’s not forget the South African beach party with the magic of Mango Groove. HERITAGE THEATRE: The Gee Jays (Gary McKenzie, John Didlick and Grant Bell) are back on stage with Don’t Tune Me – Ek Sê. The line-up will have you rolling in the aisles as well as remembering what you were doing when these tunes were being spun: Pretty Belinda, Yellow River, Tie a Yellow Ribbon, I Can See Clearly Now, Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress, Rhinestone Cowboy and more. The Gee Jays are backed by Andy Turrell (guitar), Jill Murray Brown (bass), Francois Hardy (drums) and directed by Calli Thomson on keyboards. CITY HALL: The Indian Comedy Kings brings together some of the hottest names in local comedy for a spicy, side-splittingly funny one-night-only extravaganza. Featuring Muthu Murugan, Sagie Murugan, Neville Pillay and Afzal Khan, the stand-up comedy offering promises to be a show to remember. Durban City Hall, Saturday, at 8pm. ELIZABETH SNEDDON THEATRE: KickstArts’s Twitch, the world premiere of a new South African comedy by Robert Fridjhon, about two harassed couples in a bird hide over a birding weekend competition. Runs February 7 to 24. Stars Tim Wells, Lisa Bobbert, Jailoshini Naidoo and Iain Robinson. Directed by Steven Stead and designed by Greg King, with lighting design by Tina le Roux. STABLE THEATRE: Inkonyane Engegama (The Calf With No Name). A new children’s stage play, runs from February 12 to 16 daily at 10am. Created by Clinton Marius, the production is translated into Zulu and directed by Mpume Mthombeni. The story traces the journey a Zulu boy must take in order to set right a terrible wrong he has committed. Featuring Sifiso Cele, Musa Ntuli, Noluthando Kubeka and Qaphela Makhoba. ELIZABETH SNEDDON THEATRE: Pieter-Dirk Uys has prepared four hours of performance choices in An Audience with Pieter-Dirk Eish! Every night will feature a different show of 90 minutes, because the audience decides what they want. It could be Evita Bezuidenhout as a new ANC cadre, or Nowell Fine celebrating 40 years in the public eye.
