ELIZABETH SNEDDON THEATRE: KickstArt have, due to public demand, scheduled an additional five performances of the Broadway hit musical Annie. These are 6pm on Thursday, 6pm on Friday, 2.30pm and 7pm on Saturday and 2.30pm Sunday. The role of Daddy Warbucks will be played by Lyle Buxton and Greg King will play Burt Healy. Marc Kay will replace Graeme Wicks as Mr Bundles. The cast also features Lisa Bobbert as the hilariously villainous Miss Hannigan; Steven Stead as Miss Hannigan’s wicked brother, Daniel “Rooster” Hannigan; Jessica Sole as Grace Farrel, Daddy Warbucks’s secretary, and Belinda Henwood as Lily St Regis, Rooster’s trashy girlfriend. IZULU THEATRE (Sibaya Casino): Comedian David Kau will perform at iZulu Theatre on Saturday at 8pm. At just 33, this Kroonstad comic began his career as the first black stand-up comedian in the 1998 Smirnoff Comedy Festival in Cape Town – where he was the only black person on stage out of 44 comics. Kau wrote and performed The Rainbow Nation Tour to graduate, but continued with politically-savvy comedy with his next play, Introducing The People’s Comic, in 2000. Of his material, Kau says it “isn’t all influenced by politics, but instead it’s always about what’s current.” R180 at Computicket.

NEW YORK RESTAURANT AND BAR: The Stand Up for a Cause Comedy Show takes place on Friday in aid of the Jess Foord Foundation. THE BARNYARD THEATRE: Time Warp ends July 20 and combines the music of iconic rock stars with the drama of Broadway and glamour of Hollywood. It follows Dotty who, after being caught in a time warp, lands on the stage. This leads her down the musical yellow brick road on her search for fame. First, the time warp whisks her to the 1950s with music from The Buddy Holly Story. Then she gets ready for the soundtracks from Dirty Dancing, Saturday Night Fever and Grease before paying homage to rock stars with We Will Rock You and Rock of Ages and finally moving on to the sounds of Burlesque and Moulin Rouge. THE RHUMBELOW THEATRE, Durban: Jonathan Roxmouth brings his new show, Stage by Stage, until Sunday, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm; Fridays 8pm; Saturdays 2pm and 8pm; Sundays 2pm and 6.30pm. Tickets through Computicket. Stage by Stage, described as a “concert of musicals”, sees Roxmouth take to the stage alone with nothing but a mic and his favourite songs from the musicals. He is joined by an accompanist with for the first time. Highlights include Bring Him Home from Les Misèrables, Music of the Night from The Phantom of the Opera, If I loved You from Carousel, This is the Moment from Jekyll and Hyde.

VARIOUS VENUES: Durban’s infamous Karou Charou continues touring his one-man show, Maha Dhir. Expect it to be “like a Bollywood movie, only shorter… and without subtitles”; and a show that is “not recommended for sensitive viewers, with no pulse,”. A mix of comedy, music, dance and hypnosis. CATALINA THEATRE: Dingalings Productions present Snow White. This children’s classic promises all the magic and romance of the fairy tales. ELIZABETH SNEDDON THEATRE: Directed by Themi Venturas, the 14th annual Pansa Young Performers production is Footloose which runs from July 1 to 13. Venturas re-unites with Daisy Spencer (choreographer) and Des Govender (vocal coach). Joining them as musical director is Luke Holder. HILTON COLLEGE: The 22nd annual Witness Hilton Arts Festival offers a bumper Jongosi schools arts festival embedded in the main festival, for high schools and primary schools to have a tailor-made package ahead of the main event. It will take place on the grounds of the Hilton College from September 18 to 21, with Jongosi taking place over Thursday September 18 for primary schools and Friday 19 for high schools. The festival starts with a programme of age-specific arts events aimed at schools. Teachers are asked to book early: primary schools day is R198 a head; high schools is R330 a head.
