SEABROOKES THEATRE: Taboo Productions present Dear Mrs Steyn starring Alison Cassels as Emily Hobhouse. The play runs until March 29 and will be particularly appreciated by women. It is recommended to drama and history students. The power and impact of women in society more than 100 years ago is still as applicable today and, seeing this in context, the audience relates to the action, drama and responsibility that still lies with us today. Directed by Thomie Holtzhausen, the play was originally compiled by Wilna Snyman and Deon Opperman based on letters written by Emily Hobhouse to Rachel Isabella Steyn during the Anglo Boer War. THE PLAYHOUSE: Think Theatre’s production of Shakespeare’s Othello ends on Thursday. The production will tour to Gauteng for a season at the University of Johannesburg from May 5 to 16, followed by a run at the Brooklyn Theatre in Pretoria from May 18 to 22. Directed by Clare Mortimer, Nhlakanipho Manqele takes the title role for the first time, opposite Cara Roberts, as Desdemona. Also starring Clinton Small as Iago and Mortimer as his wife Emilia, with Michael Gritten, Daisy Spencer, Marc Kay, Bryan Hiles, Rowan Bartlett and Darren King. DURBAN ICC: The award-winning British comedian and master of the edgy one-liner, Jimmy Carr, has teamed up with Comedy Central and Real Concerts for his new stand-up show, Jimmy Carr – Gagging Order, on March 31. THE PLAYHOUSE: Classic ballet master-pieces performed to music by French composers are what audiences will experience when Crown of the Russian Ballet tour the country. The innovative Moscow company will perform two shows only, on Thursday and Friday, at 7.30pm. The programme celebrates masterpieces of French music in ballet, including Camille Saint Saens’s Dying Swan, Jacques Brel’s Don’t Leave Me and Ravel’s Bolero.
