Get set for a pop extravaganza!

LOVERS of pop music are in for a treat this weekend when the tribute show Legends of Pop stages at iZulu Theatre at Sibaya Casino on Friday and Saturday.

Michael Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Elvis Presley, George Michael and Britney Spears are among those stars who will be celebrated in the show, which features some of Durban’s finest performers: Natalie Rungan, Lendel Moonsamy, Rory Booth, Janine V, Nesan Pather and more.

Tonight caught up with Booth – who’s also a popular theatre act and has released a number of hit radio singles – to find out more about his stint in the show.

“I will be performing songs by some of the world’s greatest pop icons ranging from Marvin Gaye to Michael Jackson. I love Marvin Gaye! You don’t get music like his any more.

“With regards to the King of Pop, Michael, there is no successor! He was the world’s greatest pop star.

“The show covers hits from yesteryear to current hits of today so there’s something in it for everyone, young and old.”

Commenting on the rest of the cast Booth said: “I’ve only had the opportunity to work with Eighteen Eighteen (Nesan Pather) on our single I Could Be, which was very popular on East Coast Radio.

“However the line-up is pretty impressive with some of Durban’s hottest singers. I’m looking forward to working with them.”

According to a media release Rungan will belt out some of the biggest hits of all time from artists like Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin while also celebrating contemporary stars like Adele.

Former Idols star, Moonsamy, will cover greats such as Lionel Ritchie, George Michael and current stars like John Legend and Justin Timberlake.

Paying tribute to some of the biggest divas in the industry, like Madonna and Beyoncé, is recording artist Janine V. Rapper Eighteen Eighteen will cover the likes of Snoop Dogg and Eminem.

• Legends of Pop takes place at 8pm on both nights. Tickets are R120 and are available from Shoprite, Computicket and Sibaya Box Office.
