GIG OF THE WEEK

The Muffinz, Blk Jks, the fridge and tidal waves

Catz Pyjamas, Melville (tomorrow)

Which would you say is the best band currently ruling the airwaves in SA? Of course we will not agree on this one, but The Muffinz are doing a great job.

From nowhere the group just exploded into the music scene with their great Afrosoul sounds that are reminiscent of the past yet also fit in with the current musical landscape. You can bet the next Metro Awards and the SA Music Awards will be bowing down to The Muffinz.

But you do not have to wait that long as you can catch the well- dressed guys with the smooth voices at Catz Pyjamas (12 Main Road, Melville) tomorrow as they do what they know best.

They are still fairly new to the business, so they come across as humble as can be.

Expect songs such as Have You Heard? and Khumbul’ Ekhaya, which have been their greatest hits so far. Seeing them perform live is usually an interesting experience because they always provide a background about what inspired each of their songs.

There may be songs you will relate to and others you will enjoy purely for the fun of it.

Whichever way it goes, the night is set to be one of the best you’ve had in terms of live performances. Joining The Muffinz will be Blk Jks, Tidal Waves and The Fridge.

This will cost you an incredibly cheap R80. The show starts at 5pm and you will be with the bands till late into the night. Should you |need any further details, call |011 726 8596. This is not a gig to miss. Even the Durban July can wait. – Munyaradzi Vomo
