GIG OF THE WEEK

Park Acoustics

Voortrekker Monument (Sunday)

Park Acoustics has fast become the capital city’s flagship Sunday afternoon outdoor music event.

Happening once a month at Fort Schanskop at the Voortrekker Monument, this event contributes a great deal to the live music scene, what with the lack of performance venues still a big problem in the industry.

Park Acoustics is celebrating its second birthday with two events this month.

There was no Park Acoustics last month because of the many public holidays.

The show on Sunday boasts an exciting line-up to be headlined by the super-fantastic indie rockers, Desmond and The Tutus. They will be joined by The Skabengas, LA.VI and Tim Burnz.

Desmond and The Tutus have charmed audiences with their special blend of rock ’n’ roll laced with indie, pop, kwela, disco and punk sounds since their debut album, Tuckshop, released in 2008.

The band have just been signed to Sony Music and are due to release their new album very soon, and that should be a highlight for this year.

Their performances are always fun and quirky, inducing good vibrations all around.

As the main act, they start performing at 3pm and are preceded by Tim Burnz at noon, LA.VI at 1pm and The Skabengas at 2pm.

Tickets: R55 at ticketbreak.co.za or R65 at the gate. Entrance is free for kids aged under six. Safe parking is available at R10 a car. A bar and food stalls will be available. Gates open at 11am.

The next Park Acoustics will be on May 27. – Kgomotso Moncho
