Four men were arrested after they allegedly robbed a supermarket in Protea and shot one of its employees, Gauteng police said on Saturday.

Inspector Kay Makhubele said the supermarket was robbed at around 7.50pm on Friday, when four men held employees at gunpoint and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

They allegedly shot and injured one of the cashiers during the incident. Police were called to the scene and on their way there, spotted a BMW which was later identified as the get away vehicle used by the four alleged robbers.

They chased the vehicle, which had four occupants inside, and eventually arrested the men, aged between 21 and 29.
