Two security guards were injured following the high-speed chase of a hijacker in Verulam on Saturday morning, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.

A man was hijacked while getting into his car after drawing money from a bank in Verulam," said ER24 spokesman Derrick Banks.

As the alleged hijacker sped-off on the R102, he was pursued by two security guards.

The security guards opened fire before the hijacker rammed into them, forcing them down an embankment.

The hijacker was arrested and the security guards treated for moderate injuries. - Sapa
