Both captains, Davy Jacobs of the Warriors and Boeta Dippenaar of the Diamond Eagles, made surprising declarations with the intent of forcing a decision on day three of the SuperSport Series match in East London on Saturday.
When stumps were drawn the Eagles were 92/1, holding an overall lead of 168 runs with nine wickets in hand with the whole of Sunday to play.
The Warriors moved from their overnight position of 14 without loss to 315/3 shortly after tea when Jacobs declared, in reply to the Eagles' 391/4 declared on day two after the opening day had been washed out.

At the wicket when Jacobs declared were two of the youngest players in the Warriors squad, Jon-Jon Smuts on 150 not out, and Colin Ingram, who made an unbeaten 50.
Smuts' highest first-class score was peppered with 24 delightful fours and a six, while Ingram hit five fours and a six in his entertaining knock.
Earlier, Ashwell Prince went to a patient 68 before he was run out going for a second run and a lightning fast return from the fielder, Ryan Bailey, had him out by centimetres. Prince made eight fours in a 208-minute innings of 119 balls.
But Smuts stole the show, scoring freely around the wicket on a docile pitch, being patient at times and picking the right balls to punish. His cover drives, hooks and pulls were magnificent.
Ingram was the perfect foil to him, content to nudge the ball around, while he punished the bad balls as well.
Reeza Hendricks ran to his second half-century of the match and will continue batting Sunday on 53 not out. His partner in an unbroken second wicket stand was Rilee Rossouw, who looked solid in his unbeaten 23. - Sapa
